The normally calm and collected Harrison Ford was left speechless when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. The actor found himself lost for words when the time came for him to say a few words of appreciation for the honour, which was laid last week outside the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Fortunately his girlfriend, Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart, was there to offer some moral support and he managed to regain his composure. "I'm grateful for this treasure here in front of the Kodak Theatre, grateful for this kind words and this honour," he said.

He also revealed that while it was his first star on the legendary boulevard, it wasn't the first for Harrison Ford. "When I came to Hollywood, bearing the name I was born with, I went to register at the Screen Actors Guild and they told me - and it was news to me – that there was already a Harrison Ford and that I couldn't use that name," said the 60-year-old. Initially he had to call himself Harrison J Ford for his movie roles, but the Guild eventually let him drop the initial. His namesake, the star of a series of classic silent movies, died in 1957.

Harrison was also accompanied to the ceremony by filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who lavished praise on his Indiana Jones collaborator. "All of his work has been seen in every country on this planet and dare I say the earlier works are now being viewed on more distant ones," enthused Steven. "Like the car that bears his name, Ford has stood the test of time as a modern-day hero and an old-fashioned movie star with all the tools of our most gifted actors and the talent to use them."
