Five years after their Valentine's Day wedding, screen star Sharon Stone and her husband Phil Bronstein, editor-in-chief of the San Francisco Chronicle, have apparently split. The New York Post reports that the blonde bombshell and her spouse are living in separate homes in Los Angeles, but there is no news on legal proceedings or financial settlements.

Since they wed in 1998, the pair's time has been marked by a number of high and lows. Two years after they tied the knot, the sex symbol and the newspaper man were "simply elated" to adopt a little boy, Roan. "He's my wonderful, little, precious Buddha," said the actress at the time. "And he's the apple of his father's eye."

The pair made headlines in June, 2001, after Phil was attacked by a seven-foot Komodo dragon during a zoo visit, severing a tendon in his foot. Just months later, Sharon had emergency surgery after suffering a near-fatal brain haemorrhage, commenting this year that the medical crisis had changed her life.

"Once your head blows up, having a temper tantrum is the last thing on earth that would be interesting to you – I'm now the calmest person you have ever met." She added: "Phil's probably thinking, 'I married this tempestuous woman, and now where is she?'."

Sharon and Phil reportedly decided to end their marriage after the star returned from London, where the actress was shooting her upcoming film, A Different Loyalty. After four years away from the movie spotlight, she has another big screen endeavour, Cold Creek Manor co-starring Dennis Quaid, set for a September release.
