British actress Kate Winslet and her husband of two months, American Beauty director Sam Mendes, are "absolutely delighted" to announce that they're having a baby.
"They are absolutely delighted," said a spokesperson for the couple, who are currently holidaying in Italy. "Kate and Sam have been desperate to have a child together."
The new addition, due in early 2004, means that the Titanic star's only child, two-year-old Mia, from her marriage to Jim Threapleton, will have a sibling.
Apparently, Kate was already pregnant when she tied the knot in a top secret ceremony while on holiday in late May, but wasn't aware that she was expecting.
The hush-hush wedding was witnessed by just three close friends of the movie-making pair, and the bride's little daughter. Although early reports quoted the actress as saying she "hadn't been planning" to get hitched, Kate later clarified: "It was not a spur of the moment thing – we had been secretly engaged for some time."
