Emma Thompson has married her long-time love Greg Wise on the shores of Loch Eck in Scotland. And even the onset of a typically Scottish downpour couldn't damped the couple's mood as they shared champagne with villagers in Argyll. "This for me is heaven," said Emma. "It has been a wonderful day."
The wedding had been kept a secret right up until the last minute and the only guests were a select group of family members and close friends, including Sir Derek Jacobi.
Emma was accompanied by her three-year-old daughter Gaia, who acted as flower girl. The happy day came just a few weeks after the couple spoke of their grief at not being able to have more children. Emma suffers from fertility problems, and was deeply upset after a second round of IVF treatment failed.
"I would desperately liked to have more children and it's been a great agony for me," said the Oscar-winning actress. "There's been an awful lot of grief to get through in not being able to get pregnant again, but there are thousands and thousands of women like me who cannot have children."
The newlyweds looked joyous as they set off on their honeymoon, however. "There wasn't a dry eye in the house," said Emma's sister Sophie.
