In the film Uptown Girls Brittany Murphy plays a precocious socialite, but when she turned out for the flick's premiere on Monday, she was looking every inch the sophisticated lady. Her co-star Heather Locklear, who plays a hardnosed businesswoman, had meanwhile gone for a frivolous, youthful look.
But perhaps we shouldn't be surprised, as the theme of the movie is people learning to reinvent themselves.
Seasoned actress/singer Brittany, 25, plays the daughter of a rock legend who is forced to take a job as a nanny after her inheritance is stolen from her.
Spin City's Heather Locklear, meanwhile, is the talent scout who has become distant from her daughter as a result of her pressurised career. Heather's career is looking busy in real life, too: she already has another feature film in the can plus two TV flicks for 2003. But she'll be taking care not to let that affect family life with her five-year-old daughter Ava and husband Richie Sambora.
Dakota Fanning, who you may remember from Sean Penn's I Am Sam, appears in Uptown Girls as the young child who has never had a chance to be a little girl. As she is thrown together with Brittany's character Molly, the two must learn, for the first time, how to act their age.
