The career of British starlet Keira Knightley is going from strength-to-strength after she lined up a role opposite one of the UK's most respected character actors. The 18-year-old, who is currently winning plaudits for her performance alongside Johnny Depp in Pirates Of The Caribbean, will appear with Oscar-winner Jim Broadbent in the new film Tulip Fever.
The film, which is set in 1600s Amsterdam, will mark a rather more high-brow turn for Keira, after her roles in the swashbuckling Pirates and family comedy Bend It Like Beckham. The screenplay has been written by renowned playwright Tom Stoppard, who also worked on The Russia House and Shakespeare In Love.
Tulip Fever centres on the struggles of a desperate young woman who marries a wealthy merchant to escape poverty. Her plans backfire, however, when she falls in love with a penniless artist, to be played by Jude Law.
"I am very much looking forward to joining her on the set next year," said Jim. For the moment, however, the 54-year-old is busy putting in an unusually light-hearted performance as the voice of Brian in The Magic Roundabout Movie.
