Sharon Stone has spoken out about her high profile divorce from newspaper editor Phil Bronstein, revealing that, in retrospect, she wasn't actually keen to tie the knot in the first place.
"I've always been like a hippie so I didn't really want to get married," she told British newspaper the Daily Mirror. Phil wanted to do it. He's square, let's just say."
Though rumours would indicate otherwise, Sharon insists that returning to work two years after suffering a near-fatal brain haemorrage was not what caused the split. "I wish it hadn't turned out that way, and I still don't think it's fair to say that was the reason," she explains. "I stopped working, and, when I started again, the marriage ended. I just don't know why. I took the marriage very seriously."
And after the five-year marriage, sharing a life with Phil along with adopted son Roan, Sharon has nothing but warm words for her ex-hubby. "He's Phil – he's still the person I call in a crisis," she says. "He's a fabulous father with a lot of qualities. I loved having a marriage, creating a family and having Roan in my life. It was also very stabilising for me and helped me in this crazy thing of being a star."
With at least three films – Cold Creek Manor, A Different Loyalty and Catwoman – in the pipeline, Sharon says her illness and the time off afterwards had a silver lining. "I don't have wants and desires now the way that I did before," she says. "I have more of a sense of gratitude."
