Jane Leeves, who is best known as dizzy housekeeper Daphne in the hit comedy Frasier, is planning to return to Britain. The actress, who is expecting her second child this Christmas, is hoping to launch a stage career after shooting on the series winds up next May.
The Essex-born star became one of the highest-paid British actresses of all time when she won a $20-million contract to stay with the show for three more years. NBC has since announced it is axing the series, however, and Jane has set her sights on treading the boards in London.
"My friends say I'm mad to even think about coming back to the UK because the pay doesn't compare," she says. "But to be honest, I can afford to be a little bit mad now. I'm not expecting to take time off. I'm looking to pack in TV and head for the stage - I miss England and am looking forward to getting back."
Jane currently lives in Malibu with her husband Marshall Cobel and two-year-old daughter Isabella. If she does relocate to the theatres of the West End, she can expect to earn around £350 a week. And that's rather less than the £275,000 per episode she currently makes on Frasier.
