The Prince of Wales met up with the shining lights of British drama at the weekend, as the film Bright Young Things had its premiere in London.
The eagerly awaited flick stars Jim Broadbent, Simon Callow and Peter O'Toole in a screen adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's novel Vile Bodies. It also marks the directorial debut of comedian Stephen Fry, who was could barely contain his excitement. "I am as thrilled as one can be without being arrested," declared the 46-year-old excitedly.
His film centres on a pair of young lovers and their adventures on the party circuit of 1920s London. The couple are trying to raise enough money to get married, but their fundraising efforts don't meet with much success despite their upper-class backgrounds. As they negotiate a series of eccentric characters, the two find themselves caught up in some hilarious debacles.
"It was a delight to find a period film which had pace and energy rather than the more usual languid costume dramas," said Stephen. "If this film makes only a penny profit I'd love to direct again - of course if it doesn't, I'll be too ashamed to."
The movie also features Hollywood stars Dan Ackroyd and Stockard Channing, along with Richard E Grant and Sir John Mills. They were joined at the Leicester Square screening by other famous names like It-girl Isabella Hervey and Dynasty star Emma Samms.
