Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has announced she's separating from her musician husband Eric Benet. The news comes after a series of difficulties in the relationship, including the singer's admission that he cheated on her and his stint in an Arizona clinic to be treated for sex addiction.
"Eric and I have had marital problems for some time now and have tried to work things out together," said Halle. "However, at this point, I feel we need time apart to reevaluate our union. We ask that you respect our privacy as we are going through this emotional time."
Despite her stellar movie career, the 37-year-old has a history of bad luck in relationships. Her first marriage, to baseball star David Justice, ended after three years as the actress was forced to take out a restraining order. And she was left partially deaf after being assaulted by a previous boyfriend.
Australia's favourite couple, Heath Ledger and Naomi Watts, have also called it a day. The antipodean pair say their hectic work schedules are to blame for the end of their 16-month relationship.
"Heath and Naomi have made the decision to go their separate ways," said a spokeswoman for the pair. "At this time in their lives, both are busy pursuing careers, which are taking them in different directions. They remain close friends."
