Uma Thurman showed off her form at the premiere of Kill Bill in New York on Wednesday. Dressed in a flowing orange Christian Dior gown, the statuesque beauty pulled a samurai sword from its sheath and spun it over her head.

The action thriller's renowned director Quentin Tarantino couldn't make it on the night, but Uma's co-stars Lucy Liu, David Carradine and Daryl Hannah were all on hand. In the movie Uma plays an assassin who takes revenge on mobsters who tried to bump her off.

Lucy was also dressed to kill in a black Narciso number, while Daryl opted for Stella McCartney. The blonde actress admitted to a last minute panic, however, when she thought the dress wouldn't arrive in time. "But it came - about 15 minutes ago," she revealed. Other stars who turned out for the screening included Julianne Moore, Sofia Coppola and Matthew Modine.

Over on the West Coast, meanwhile, Cate Blanchett was keeping photographers busy at the US premiere of her latest flick, Veronica Guerin. In the film she plays the crusading Irish journalist of the same name who was gunned down by the underworld bosses she was investigating.

"Veronica would go into a pub and talk to these guys and try to get them to talk and the things they would say would be incredible," says Cate of the reporter. "I don't think I would ever be able to put myself in such jeopardy."
