Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez found themselves at loggerheads when they ventured out for an evening's entertainment at the weekend.

But it was baseball, rather than their wedding plans, that the betrothed pair couldn't agree on. Because Hollywood's favourite couple had turned out to watch the Boston Red Sox take on the New York Yankee's at Fenway Park stadium.

Jen, who hails from the Bronx, was rooting for the Yankees but Ben, who grew up in Boston, is a passionate Red Sox fan. And the actor even revealed that he and his fiancée normally go to different rooms to watch games.

"It's not a topic that creates a lot of harmony at home," he joked. "I watch the game in my space and I root for the Red Sox. You can't ask somebody who's born in the Bronx not to root for the Yankees, but you can ask them to do it downstairs." The couple didn't let their sporting rivalry spoil their enjoyment of the game, however, as the two teams went head-to-head.

Not surprisingly, the A-list couple had front row seats for the fixture, with a plasma screen to give them a clear view of action replays. And they found themselves looking at some familiar faces from time to time, as TV cameras were spying on them throughout the match.

At the end of play it was Jen who had most to cheer about, as the Yankees beat their hosts 4-3. Ben insisted, however, that their children will be Red Sox supporters. "There will never be any pinstripes in my home," he said, in reference to the Yankees' black and white jerseys. "I can assure you of that."
