Gwyneth Paltrow is said to be "ecstatic" after confirming that she and her boyfriend, British rock star Chris Martin, are looking forward to the birth of their first child.
The publicity-shy couple, who have been together for 18 months, are taking a year off work to concentrate on starting their family. "They are pleased to confirm that they are expecting their first child next summer," revealed a spokesman for the pair.
Since they first started dating, Chris and Gwyneth have made strenuous efforts to avoid press attention. They arrived separately for the London premiere of her new film,Sylvia, so as to avoid being photographed together. And they have both refused to comment on relentless media speculation about wedding plans.
Gwyneth seemed to be a little more forthcoming during a recent appearance on BBC's Parkinson show, however. Asked whether she and Chris would indeed tie the knot, she said: "I don't know, I hope so."
A few years ago, the Oscar-winning actress was asked where she would like to be in ten years time. "Hopefully I'll be married with three or four children," replied the actress.
