Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have tied the knot in a secret ceremony in Santa Barbara. The happy couple, who announced last week that they are expecting their first child, made their vows without any family or friends present.
The service, which lasted just ten minutes, took place in a three-bedroom bungalow at California's exclusive San Ysidro Ranch. The luxurious resort was also the setting for Laurence Olivier's marriage to Vivien Leigh and John F Kennedy's honeymoon with Jackie Bouvier.
Chris and Gwyneth went to great lengths to keep their wedding a secret. After driving to Santa Barbara early on Friday, they requested a "sealed" marriage licence at the local registry office, meaning that it would not be made public. Just a few hours later, a judge travelled to their bungalow to perform the ceremony. And Gwyn called on her old family friend Kate Capshaw to buy the rings.
The Oscar-winning actress and her new husband waited until after the event to inform most of their friends. The newlyweds are now honeymooning at the Mexican resort of Cabo San Lucas, where they have been spotted enjoying the golden beaches.
