Having spent more than a year out of the Hollywood spotlight, Academy Award winner Julia Roberts returned to the red carpet on Wednesday, her million-watt grin turned on for the debut of her latest film, Mona Lisa Smile.
The Fifties-era movie, Julia's first project since marrying camerman Danny Moder in 2002, does not mark a return to a non-stop work schedule. "If I slowed down my career much more it would be at a complete standstill," says the star, who has just two films in the pipeline. "I just want what I want, which is what I've done for the last number of years. That's been nice."
Fellow Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman, however, is taking full advantage of her red-hot career, turning out for the LA and NYC debuts of her new movie, Cold Mountain this week. The Aussie beauty has six films slated for 2004 and 2005, ranging from comedy Betwitched to the Baz Luhrmann epic Alexander The Great.
It's also been a busy week for Julia and Nicole's co-stars, with Mona Lisa Smile's Julia Stiles and Kirsten Dunst, and Cold Mountain actress Natalie Portman among those on the premiere circuit. Meanwhile, another rising starlet, Scarlett Johansson, was also on the red carpet, stepping out with British heart-throb Colin Firth for the LA debut of The Girl With The Pearl Earring.
