Oscar winner Russell Crowe and his wife Danielle Spencer have welcomed a baby boy, the actor's publicist announced Monday. The 6lb 4oz infant, named Charles Spencer Crowe, was born on Sunday night. "He's a healthy, bouncing baby boy looking forward to Christmas," said the spokesperson.

In the run-up to the birth, Russell, who wed singer-actress Danielle last April in a lavish ceremony at his Australian ranch, said that the arrival of his first-born child would mean a cut in his filming schedule.

"It will be hard to find reasons to work once the baby is here," he remarked. "I've told Danielle, write your next album now, so you can tour after you've given birth, and I'll stay home. My agent in America is nervous about that, I think."

Nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in Master And Commander, Russell says he'll be a no-show at the Oscars, preferring to stay home with his little one. "There's no way I'll go to the ceremony, even if I'm nominated," he told the BBC. "Nothing has priority over my schedule of becoming a dad."
