While she rose to fame as "Tom Cruise's wife", Nicole Kidman's reputation as a solid actress took off not long after the couple's high-profile split. And now the Oscar winner has surpassed her hubby's star power, ranking above the Mission: Impossible actor in a compilation of the Top Ten Money-Making Stars of 2003.
In the Quigley Poll survey of cinema managers, held annually since 1932, the 36-year-old beauty comes just behind the number one star, Bruce Almighty's Jim Carrey. Meanwhile, Tom – who, like his former wife, is up for an acting Golden Globe this month – comes in at number four.
The only other actresses in the top ten are Julia Roberts, ranked fifth, and tenth-place honoree Renee Zellweger. Male A-listers making the cut include Jack Nicholson, Johnny Depp, Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks and Elf rising star Will Ferrell.
The poll also asked respondents to select the top Stars Of Tomorrow – up-and-comers who they believe will be box office giants in years to come. Just Married's Ashton Kutcher – perhaps better known as Demi Moore's boyfriend – and Scarlett Johansson, who is currently making a splash in Lost In Translation and Girl With A Pearl Earring, were named the best bets for the future.
