Jude Law has been speaking publicly for the first time about the breakdown of his marriage to Sadie Frost. Appearing on a British chatshow, he said the uncomfortably public divorce had left him "bruised and battered", but stronger as a person.
He and Sadie kept a five-month pact not to speak about their break-up, because they were concerned about the welfare of their children. "It changes your life when you enter into a marriage and it can change it just as much when you're part of a break-up," said the 31-year-old. "I feel stronger emotionally and happier in myself, if not a little battered and bruised."
The couple split last August after six years as man and wife. Strains first appeared in their relationship after Sadie suffered a bout of post-natal depression and Jude's career kept him away from home for long periods.
They both seem to have moved on, however, as Jude has been dating actress Sienna Miller while Sadie is going out with guitarist Jackson Scott. These days they are concentrating on being the best parents they can for their children.
"I think those sort of situations take a lot longer to heal and to repair and to put back together," said Jude. "It was as hard for us to tell our children as it has been for any couple. Just how do you explain that to a child? All you can do is hope something positive comes from it in the end."
