With her transformation from crop-haired, combat-pant-wearing stage star to glamorous screen siren revving up, all eyes are on British actress Emma Thompson in the run-up to this Sunday's Baftas.
In recent weeks the dowdy clothes and sensible shoes favoured by the 44-year-old actress in former times have been replaced by flattering designer gowns by Maria Grachvogel and strappy, jewel-like sandals from some of the world's most prestigious footwear creators.
"I will be 45 years old this year and I don't have many more years left to be glamorous. It's my last-ditch effort," joked the Sense And Sensibility actress.
For the Evening Standard Film Awards ceremony Emma chose a figure-hugging, bias-cut affair teamed with diamante and pink ribbon sandals by Gina Couture. At the Film Critics Awards she switched to a silk chiffon confection – this time opting for four-inch bejewelled stilettos from Jimmy Choo, a red-carpet favourite on both sides of the Atlantic.
She strode out in Jimmy Choo again at the Empire Film Awards, opting for black boots to complement a slash-sleeved cocktail dress and funky ostrich-feather purse. And feathers were an integral part of her look for the Angels In America screening later in the week when she sported a blue asymmetric number accessorised with a Maria Grachvogel tassled feather boa.
Emma's change of image isn't all frocks and fancy shoes, however. The actress also seems to have undergone a personal makeover. The result, on display this week, combines flowing sun-kissed locks with a toned bod and all-over golden glow usually associated more with California than Camden.
The new look is purely superficial, the actress reassures, quipping: "Shortly, you can expect to see me in sensible shoes, wearing sewn-together duvets for warmth and comfort!"
