TV spy Jennifer Garner, who plays a CIA agent in the hit series Alias, is appearing in a recruitment video on the real-life organisation's website.

In the clip, the 31-year-old actress calls on citizens to join the intelligence service, which aims to fight threats to America's security. And the website says her Alias character, Agent Sydney Bristow, "embodies the integrity, patriotism and intelligence the CIA looks for in its officers".

Jennifer agreed to appear in the recruitment drive out of patriotism and was not paid for her contribution. "I play a CIA officer," she says in the ad. "In the real world, the CIA serves as our country's first line of defence in the ongoing war against international terrorism. The CIA's mission is clear and direct: Safeguard America and its people.

"And it takes smart people with wide-ranging talents and diverse backgrounds to carry out this mission ... people with integrity, common sense, patriotism and courage. The kind of people who have always worked for the agency."
