The on-screen partnership between Penelope Cruz and her Sahara co-star Matthew McConaughey has carried over into a real life friendship. The hunky Wedding Planner star was among the guests at Pen's private 30th birthday party for her close family and pals in Madrid over the weekend.
Penelope was stunning in a strapless little black dress as she arrived at an exclusive nightspot in the Spanish capital for the festivities. Matthew, who rubbed shoulders with guests including Oscar-winning director Pedro Almodovar, was dashing in a white suit and fedora.
Madrid-born Penelope, who turned 30 on April 28, was definitely the star of the evening, singing an a cappella rendition of a classic Spanish tune with All About My Mother filmmaker Almodovar. "I didn't stop dancing the entire night," Pen said later. And pal Almodovar remarked that Matthew had joined in on the Mediterranean-style fun, "singing and dancing along with everyone else".
As the actress left the party in the early hours of the morning, she revealed her favourite birthday gift had been a video from her family, capturing moments of her life from when she was just a few months old up to today.
And did Tom Cruise, who split from the sultry film actress in January, wish his former flame a happy birthday? "Yes, of course," said Penelope. "He congratulated me two days ago on my actual birthday."
