Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her rock star husband Chris Martin have welcomed their first child, a little girl named Apple Blythe Alison Martin.
A spokesperson for the couple said, "Apple Blythe Alison Martin was born in London after a long labour, on 14 May, and weighed 9lb 11oz. Both mother and baby are very well."
The delighted father was swift to express his feelings: "We are 900 miles over the moon," said Coldplay singer Chris, adding, "We'd like to thank everyone at the hospital who have looked after us so amazingly."
Gwyneth, who was previously engaged to Hollywood movie star Brad Pitt and also dated fellow actor Ben Affleck, married Chris in December in a private ceremony in Santa Barbara.
Gwyneth has expressed her intention of putting her acting career on the back burner for a while, as her mother Blythe Danner did, in order to enjoy motherhood to the full.
She and Chris, who live in London but travel a lot to the States, are also contemplating spending more of their time in Spain, where they have some land.
