Hollywood veteran Kirk Douglas and his Germany-born wife Anne have renewed their wedding vows after 50 years together. Disproving the theory that Tinseltown marriages don't last, the enduring couple reaffirmed their love for each other at a lavish ceremony in Beverley Hills.
The happy couple first said "I do" when they eloped to Las Vegas in 1954. "The two met in Paris," explained Kirk's publicist Warren Cowan. "She was here on a visa and was about to go back. He didn't want to take a chance of losing her."
This time around there was rather less secrecy surrounding the event, with 300 guests, including Tony Curtis, Lauren Bacall and Nancy Reagan, present to witness it. The song I'm In The Mood For Love played as they walked up the aisle. And the 87-year-old charmer later serenaded his bride with a tune he had written especially, entitled Please Stay In Love With Me.
Other big names at the ceremony included Angelica Houston, Dan Aykroyd, Merv Griffin and Vidal Sassoon. The Douglas' son Peter was also there, along with his wife and children, although Michael – Kirk's son from an earlier marriage – was unable to make it. The Traffic star is currently staying with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones while she shoots a film in Europe.
