Silver screen mums Jennifer Connelly and Kate Winslet have been getting a little extra practice on the set of their new movie. The two performers are making good use of their parenting skills as they collaborate on the drama Little Children. Jennifer is something of a veteran when it comes to child-rearing, as her first son Kai is now eight. The pretty actress also has a two-year-old called Stellan with her actor husband Paul Bettany.

Her British co-star likewise knows the ropes of family life, thanks to her experience looking after daughter Mia, who is now four, and little Joe, aged 18 months. Kate says being a parent in real life has been crucial to her work on films like Finding Neverland in which she played a mum of four.

"There is a physicality involved in being a parent that you don't know about until you are one," she explained. "I remember playing a mother before I became one myself and found it frustrating because I didn't really know what it felt like."

Jennifer meanwhile affirms that looking after her two little boys is always her first consideration when making career choices. "Becoming a parent was a huge transition," she says. "Since time with my sons is a precious commodity, I now think a lot harder about which projects to get involved with. I've also evolved as a person, and that affects my movie choices."

In their new flick Kate and Jennifer play two young mothers struggling with the pressures of parenthood and familial dysfunction. The film goes on general release next year.
