Aussie hunk Heath Ledger is currently being hailed by critics for his portrayal of a gay cowboy in Broke Back Mountain. But the success of his new film wasn't the only reason he and fiancée Michelle Williams were smiling on Wednesday night, as they are both relishing their new roles as parents. The glamorous couple, who welcomed their first child Matilda just over a month ago, were both sporting huge grins when they arrived at the Gotham Movie Awards in New York. And although broken sleep and dirty nappies might not seem like the first things an A-list star would wish for, Heath says he is loving every minute of it.
"My life right now is that I wake up, cook breakfast, clean the dishes, prepare lunch, clean those dishes, go to the market, get fresh produce, cook dinner, clean those dishes and then sleep if I can," he explained. "And I love it. I actually adore it!"
Having recently finished work on a new biopic of fabled lover Casanova, the 26-year-old is now looking forward to some serious quality time with his two leading ladies. After spending Christmas with Michelle's family in Montana, the actor is planning to take little Matilda to see his homeland. "Next year my hope is to spend as much time in Australia as possible," he said. "I want to introduce Matilda to the ocean."
He wasn't the only one on fine form at the Manhattan prize giving. Veteran actor Matt Dillon and indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch were both honoured at the ceremony, which was presided over by Born On The Fourth Of July actress Kyra Sedgwick.
