This year's Oscar race has just begun and it looks like cowboy romance Brokeback Mountain, starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, is pulling ahead as the front-runner.
The Ang Lee-directed film rounded up a total of seven Golden Globe nominations on Tuesday, including in the best drama and director categories, with a best drama actor nod for Aussie heart-throb Heath.
Brokeback Mountain will compete against George Clooney's Good Night And Good Luck, A History Of Violence, Woody Allen's Match Point, and The Constant Gardener for best drama. Both George and Woody were shortlisted for best director, along with Peter Jackson for King Kong, Steven Spielberg for Munich and Fernando Meirelles for The Constant Gardener.
The Constant Gardener's Rachel Weisz, a best supporting actress nominee, led the British names who will be on the red carpet, along with Mrs Henderson Presents star Dame Judi Dench, Pride & Prejudice's Keira Knightley – both nominated for best musical or comedy actress – and Dame Judi's co-star Bob Hoskins, nominated for best supporting actor.
Academy Award winners Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Mira Sorvino and Russell Crowe are among the nominees, and rising stars – including Brokeback Mountain's Michelle Williams and Breakfast On Pluto's Cillian Murphy – also have a chance to take home a trophy.
Michelle and Heath, who just welcomed their first child together, aren't the only Hollywood couple receiving honours. Former Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker is nominated for her role in The Family Stone, while husband Matthew Broderick's new movie The Producers is up for best musical or comedy.
