Debra Messing had a little help in picking out a few last-minute gifts in the run-up to Christmas this year. The flame-haired Will & Grace star was accompanied on a shopping trip by her young son Roman.

While the 36-year-old Brooklyn native, who is married to screenwriter Daniel Zelman, was dressed casually for the New York city outing in a black polo neck and jeans, Roman displayed a cutting-edge style all of his own. The trendy toddler was sporting the ubiquitous footwear of the stars – a pair of powder blue Ugg boots.

And as she toted the youngster in her arms and then crouched down to share a discovery with him, the TV sitcom star showed she is clearly a very hands-on mum. Debra admits, however, that combining a busy career with motherhood can, at times, be "a struggle". Having a nursery on the Will & Grace set helps, though. "I can take Roman to work with me every day," she explains. "He watches the scenes. He gets mesmerised."

While her role as the ditsy Grace on the popular TV series has rocketed her into the big time, Debra is very clear about wherein lies the source of her current happiness. "The best part of motherhood is simply him. Just the fact of him. It's literally indescribable. I've never known this kind of joy or love in my life," she revealed recently.
