The pre-Oscar season is now definitely open, with glitzy awards ceremonies luring red carpet names from one side of the States to the other.
Tuesday night saw glamorous but slightly weary stars showing up for the 2005 National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Awards in New York, just 48 hours after attending the Palm Springs Film Festival over on the West Coast.
"I'm sick as a dog," admitted Best Actress winner Felicity Huffman, while George Clooney – who picked up the gong for his director/actor movie Good Night, And Good Luck - confessed that for him "celebrating is getting into bed". Both have been suffering from severe colds.
On more traditional celebratory form was native New Yorker Amanda Peet, who spent the eve of her 34th birthday cuddling up to George. Meanwhile, Halle Berry and Queen Latifah - both gorgeous in sleek black jackets - also seemed to be enjoying the event to the full.
And veteran actress/activist Jane Fonda, fabulous in a frog-buttoned fuchsia tunic, is clearly keen to capitalise on her recent comeback in Monster-In-Law, admitting that she wants to make some more "kick-butt" films.
