Beyonce Knowles brought a distinctly feline flavour to her latest movie premiere, prowling up the red carpet in a pink satin number from her mother's House of Derion line. The R&B diva, who was in New York to promote her new flick The Pink Panther, was joined by co-star Steve Martin and former bandmate Kelly Rowland for the glitzy event.

The 24-year-old is no stranger to comedy acting, having previously teamed up with Mike Myers in Austin Powers: Goldmember, but she is unlikely to forget the experience of working with Steve. Talking to reporters outside the screening she confessed to having to fight back fits of giggles in order to film many of her scenes. "Thank God I hate messing up takes - otherwise, I wouldn't be able to do the movie," she revealed.

Not everything about her role required quite so much effort, however, as her character, the sultry femme fatale Xania, is also a chanteuse. "I didn't have to do much research," she said. "I was playing an international singer."

The veteran funnyman who plays Inspecter Clouseau insisted he wasn't too worried about filling the shoes of silver screen icon Peter Sellers. "I have big feet," he joked. "It's kind of a dream come true, because we've always loved these films. We've loved this character, and now we have the opportunity to not remake the movie, but to play these characters. It's like playing Hamlet."

Among the other famous faces at the screening was Hollywood favourite Ben Stiller, who arrived hand-in-hand with his actress wife Christine Taylor.
