Charlize turns up the heat in Rome

Tinseltown actress Charlize Theron gave Italian fans a masterclass in glamour when she jetted in to the Italian capital to present her new movie this week. The 30-year-old looked every inch the Hollywood star when she sashayed into the screening with her blonde hair tied back and a large bejewelled pendant complementing a pale ochre-coloured gown with plunging neckline.

The South African actress, who picked up an Academy Award for her role in 2003' s Monster, is once again contesting the best actress gong for her portrayal, in North Country, of the female mine worker who fought America's first major sexual harassment case.

Having recently tipped Reese Witherspoon to win the trophy, she obviously isn't too hopeful of emerging victorious on March 5, though. "Am I confident I'll win?," she said. "Are you crazy?"

North Country's director Niki Caro meanwhile revealed the tables were turned on the set of the movie, with her leading lady slapping the bottoms of many of her male colleagues. "She sexually harassed everybody!" she said. "We had a fantastic time, I've never seen so many Hollywood macho male crew members blush so crimson and be so silent for so long because the women were just having a ball."

The filmmaker went on to explain that joking around gave the crew some relief from the film's weighty subject matter, and she and her female colleagues were careful to make sure their male peers didn't feel uncomfortable. "It is true and it happened very naturally," added Charlize. "The nice thing was that we were surrounded by men who were not intimidated by women."

And one man who is clearly comfortable in the company of pretty girls is her British co-star Sean Bean, who was accompanied to the glitzy event by his 14-year-old daughter Molly.
