Tinseltown favourite Julia Roberts has been keeping a relatively low profile since she and husband Danny Moder welcomed twins in November 2004. The enormously popular actress stepped back into the spotlight this week, however, when she and her leading man took a break from the demands of parenthood by visiting the Big Apple.
The Oscar-winner, who told friends she would take extended leave to concentrate on family life, was snapped walking hand-in-hand with Danny on the streets of New York. Her husband of four years gazed lovingly at the 38-year-old as they strolled through the heart of Manhattan and indulged in a little retail therapy.
Becoming a mum has obviously had a big impact on Julia, as her last two movie outings have been pure child's play. In Charlotte's Web, which sees her performing alongside Robert Redford and Oprah Winfrey, she provides the voice of a spider, while the cartoon adventure The Ant Bully gave her the opportunity to team up with fellow Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage.
Her main motivation for signing up for the two flicks was that they only required voice work, thereby minimising the amount of time she'd have to spend away from the New Mexico ranch where she and her bundles of joy live. Fans needn't worry about her giving up on more dramatic fare, though, as she has also agreed to play the female lead in Tom Hanks' forthcoming flick Charlie Wilson's War, which is to be directed by Kate Winslet's husband Sam Mendes.
Given that she is Hollywood's highest-paid actress, Julia can afford to take some time off in the meantime. And she has apparently decided to invest some of her earnings in a new dream home, as reports stateside say she has invested $20 million in a huge plot of land in Malibu where she and Danny are planning to build a mansion.
