Flashbulb darlings Paris Hilton and Nicole Kidman garnered attention of a very different kind at the weekend, when they both 'triumphed' at the Razzies, Hollywood's antithesis of the Oscars.
Ubiquitous hotel heiress and TV reality star Paris scooped worst supporting actress for her role in the remake horror flick House Of Wax. "I could have told you she would win as soon as I heard she was going to be in the movie," said Razzies founder John Wilson.
The irreverent awards named Nicole Kidman and her Bewitched co-star Will Ferrell worst screen couple, while Hayden Christensen bore off the worst supporting actor palm for Star Wars: Episode III.
But the big 'loser' of the evening was former glamour model Jenny McCarthy, who swept the board with three trophies – worst actress, film and screenplay, for the romantic comedy Dirty Love, which also stars Carmen Electra. Her husband, whom she is divorcing, took worst director for the same movie.
There's no agonising over which frock to wear and whose jewels to showcase for Razzie nominees. Staged the evening before the Oscars at a modest LA theatre, the cheerfully mocking event rarely attracts the big names. So, Oscar winner Halle Berry impressed everyone with her self-deprecating humour when she turned up last year to collect her prize – a $5, gold-sprayed model of a giant raspberry.
