After the Golden Globes their trans-Atlantic relationship was said to be in trouble. But when Matthew McConaughey jetted into Madrid recently to support girlfriend Penelope Cruz at the screening of her latest flick Volver the couple were as loved-up as ever.

The Wedding Planner actor - who is something of a free spirit - had clearly spruced up for the premiere, and was wearing a dapper suit and crisp white shirt.

Matthew could hardly take his eyes off the Latin beauty, showing that two years after love struck on the set of Sahara things are still pretty hot between them. His continuing ardour was confirmed by a recent appearance on Oprah when he waxed lyrical about Penelope's charms. "She's lovely and she's pure," he enthused.

The Hollywood star is also a big fan of her culture. "People in Spain love to chat and eat together for hours on end sat at the dinner table," he commented. "We just don't have that sort of culture in the US."

As to the question of whether he'll pop the question to the gorgeous actress, friends say he thinks she's perfect marriage material but is anxious about taking the plunge.

"Matthew wants to think carefully before tying the knot," said a source close to the 36-year-old actor. "He hates the way relationships in Hollywood seem to be over in a flash. But all his friends are always telling him he'd be mad not to marry Penelope."
