British actor David Morrissey has been getting a taste for A-list life in the Big Apple as he promotes his new movie stateside. The performer is already a familiar face on this side of the pond, thanks to his roles in The Deal and State Of Play, but his latest turn opposite Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct 2 has catapulted him onto a whole new level of celebrity.
The 6ft 3in perfomer was greeted by a blaze of flashbulbs when he arrived for the premiere of the new flick in Manhattan. His trip to the US comes after a whirlwind promotional tour of Europe, during which he and his famous co-star took in London, Berlin, Paris, Madrid and Rome.
David seems to be taking all the attention in his stride, although he does admit to having felt a little anxious the first time her came face to face with Sharon. "I was nervous," confessed the statuesque actor. "She was sitting there talking to the director, Michael Caton-Jones, and the first thing I noticed was she had this trouser suit on with these long legs. She got up, and I shook her hand. And we just started talking and laughing."
The blonde bombshell, who wore a stunning Christian Dior dress to Monday's premiere, was immediately impressed with the Liverpool-born hunk, though. Describing the 41-year-old as "an extremely-well mannered pro", the silver screen siren revealed she could clearly recall the moment she first set eyes on him. "He had long sideburns and piercing crystal-blue eyes and a black suit," she said.
It would appear David's partner of 15 years, Esther Freud, who is the great granddaughter of psychiatrist Sigmund Freud, has grown accustomed to his good looks, however. After the screening the actor revealed that, despite the long hours he spent in the gym to bulk up for his new role, she seemed more impressed with the movie's props. "After my character walks into the kitchen, she turns to me in the theatre and whispers, 'That's the type of refrigerator we should get.' I was like, 'I sweated blood to get that body, and you want the fridge?'."
