Having just welcomed a new baby daughter into his life - not to mention saving the world from evildoers once again in Mission: Impossible III – one might think Tom Cruise had earned a bit of time off. But judging by his action-packed afternoon in New York on Wednesday, the indefatigable star has no intention of slowing down just yet.
The 43-year-old showed more than a little of his onscreen persona Ethan Hunt's daredevil character as he used a fire truck, helicopter, motorcycle and speed boat to attend a series of publicity events in different corners of Manhattan.
His first appearance came in Times Square, where a huge crowd of fans applauded the movie heart-throb as he showed off his dancing skills on MTV Live. It was to be a fleeting visit, though, as a huge fire truck soon arrived to ferry the actor to his next destination, a heliport, where he jumped aboard a helicopter and headed for the first of three screenings.
Tinseltown's hardest-working performer obviously didn't stick around to see the credits roll, however, as he roared up to the doors of the Tribeca Performing Arts Centre on a huge motorcycle less than an hour later. And after spending some time signing autographs and chatting with the legions of fans who had gathered outside, he once again sped off, this time in a gleaming orange sports car.
Over the course of the day, Tom also managed to fit in appearances on The Late Show With David Letterman - where he tried his hand at cooking with British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver - and the popular breakfast show Good Morning America.
And if anyone was wondering why he was in such a hurry, the performer said is was because he couldn't wait to get home to his leading ladies. "Katie and I can't take our eyes off of her," he said of new daughter Suri. "She's a beauty - it's crazy."
