Loved-up couple Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughan have extra reason to celebrate this week after ousting the mutant heroes of X-Men 3 from the top of the US box office. Despite a valiant Last Stand from Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Romijn, their superhuman powers weren't enough to stop the former Friends star going to number one with her romantic comedy The Break-up.
The 37-year-old actress, whose previous movie outings have received a lukewarm reception from the cinema-going public, will be especially pleased by the news. And her statuesque co-star also has good reason to pop open a bottle of bubbly, as he not only appeared in, but also helped write and produce the film. Having taken more than $38 million over the weekend, the flick has far exceeded studio expectations and notched up the third most successful opening weekend ever recorded for a romantic comedy.
Jen might be forgiven for looking back with a wry smile at the way her decision to appear in the movie was reported as "an unfortunate irony" when she signed up for the flick shortly before her marriage to Brad Pitt came to an end. These days, however, the actress is enjoying the company of her costar Vince, not to mention soaking up the glory of box office gold.
