On a return visit to her native land Wales' hottest export Catherine Zeta-Jones delighted young patients at a local hospital by dropping in to chat and blow up balloons. Accompanied by husband Michael Douglas, the raven-haired star jetted in to inspect the country's first dedicated children's hospital, which they helped fund.

Her glamorous lifestyle sees the Chicago actress dividing her time between properties in Hollywood and Bermuda, but she has always retained a soft spot for Wales. Catherine - who named her two children Dylan and Carys - comes back at least once a year, when she is occasionally spotted driving her mum's silver Skoda car.

"I'm very proud that we now have our own dedicated children's hospital in Wales, but there's a long way to go," commented the mother-of-two on Tuesday. "If I have to lock people up and steal their money we'll do it."

Last year Catherine and Michael raised a five-figure sum for the new clinic, by teeing off for a celebrity golf tournament. In 2002 she joined cricket legend Ian Botham and songstress Charlotte Church on a charity walk for the cause.

The Oscar winner is a patron of the Noah's Ark appeal, which was set up to raise funds for the hospital. More than 3,350 patients have been treated at the unit since it opened in March 2005.
