There were more than a few familiar faces at the LA premiere of A Scanner Darkly, most notably Winona Ryder, clearly delighted to be back in the spotlight after a two-year absence. She joined co-stars Woody Harrelson and Keanu Reeves - also both very much in demand again recently - for the red carpet event on Thursday.

The 34-year-old Heathers star, pretty in a simple black frock, is making her big-screen comeback with the animated sci-fi flick - an adaptation of Philip K Dick's novel of paranoia and drugs. Her latest role reunites her with Matrix actor Keanu, with whom she appeared in 1992's Dracula.

Winona, who was arrested in 2002 for shoplifting, is proving she's back in business, juggling press junkets with filming Sex And Death 101, in which she's set to star as a femme fatale.

Keanu looked on slightly more serious form as he attended the screening at the Los Angeles Film Festival, perhaps exhausted from his numerous work commitments. More in demand than ever, the Hollywood favourite is currently appearing in cinemas opposite Sandra Bullock in The Lake House, and has a further three films in production.

Woody, of Cheers fame, has also been working solidly, recently appearing in A Prairie Home Companion and now filming a Coen brothers movie alongside Tommy Lee Jones.

A Scanner Darkly is due out in the UK on August 18 and the US on July 28.
