The police generally do their best to fade into the background when they're called upon to watch over a glitzy premiere, but two of America's coolest cops took centre stage on Thursday night when Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx met up for the debut screening of Miami Vice. The two men, who are regarded by many studio executives as the hottest talents of their generation, have joined forces to bring the roles first made famous in the late Eighties by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas back to life.
Fans gathered outside the cinema were eager to get a look at the Irish actor, who has emerged a new man after leaving his hell-raising days behind him. The 30-year-old famously decided to check into a rehabilitation clinic after collapsing at the movie's wrap party in Uruguay late last year. "I was burning the candle at both ends and the flames met in the middle," he confessed. "It just caught up with me... but now I haven't had a drink for six months."
With his hair cut into a neat crop and his trademark stubble gone, the Dubliner was a picture of health as he embraced Lost star Michelle Rodriguez at Thursday's screening. And the actor, who took his mum Rita along to the event, says becoming a parent was part of the reason he decided to change his ways.
Colin says life in the fast lane started to lose its appeal after James Padraig, his son with model Kim Bordenave, was born. "My priority, first and foremost, is the little fellow," he explained. "Talk about falling in love. It's bizarre to fall in love and know it's going to last. That's what it feels like for me - it's like nothing can come between us."
