Currently hanging out in a plush Hollywood pad, complete with pool, and running a packed agenda that includes meetings with Keira Knightley, Cat Deeley must think life is going rather swimmingly. And, on Wednesday the Brummie beauty, who has landed a coveted presenting job with Fox TV, joined another Brit success story, Hugh Laurie of House fame at a party for the channel's biggest stars.

Wearing a slinky cutaway dress, and a glowing smile, the presenter looked right at home among the cream of the crop on Tinseltown's social circuit. Also on hand enjoying the glitzy night out were 24's hardened anti-terror agent Kiefer Sutherland, as well as power couple Courteney Cox Arquette and husband David Arquette.

Other faces from the Fox stable included Rachel Bilson - The OC's pampered socialite Summer - and Kelly Rowan, who plays the show's straight-laced mother of two.

In February Cat flew out to the States to convince Fox bosses she had what it takes to host the network's ratings winner So You Think You Can Dance?, a Pop Idol-style programme for the twinkle-toed. Initially signed up to provide maternity cover, the former model hasn't looked back since.

And, with an audience of 21 million across the pond, it's unlikely she'll be back on these shores in the near future. "I was doing lovely work in the UK. I could have gone off and had babies and worked for three months a year," she comments. "But I'm 29 years old and I want to do more. Actually I want to do everything."
