After a leisurely family dinner in her native Spain over the weekend, Penelope Cruz' features were wreathed in smiles. Accompanied by her little sister Monica, and friend and mentor, director Pedro Almodovar, the Sahara star stepped out in the Spanish capital Madrid, where she's been spending the summer after filming wrapped on her latest flick matador biopic Manolete.
Clearly the chance to relax with her nearest and dearest was just the tonic to the spirits the sultry beauty needed in the wake of her split with Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey. Ten days ago when she was asked about the end of their romance, Penelope replied emotionally: "I can't talk about it right now."
But there was no hint of sadness during her evening out on Saturday. Monica, who bears an uncanny resemble to her famous sibling, is the Cruz clan's other actress and the two ladies seemed happy to be doing some catching up.
For over ten years, Penelope has also been close to the legendary Spanish filmmaker, who directed her in Volver (The Return), another recent project, describing him as "my everything". "When I'm at the end of my life, thinking about the most important people in my life, people I have loved the most, Pedro will be one of the main people," she declared.
