There was no sign of baby Suri, but if the broad smile on Katie Holmes' face was anything to go by, life in the Cruise mansion would appear to be just fine and dandy. The high-profile Hollywood mum, who was cool in a flowery top, supersize sunnies and equally enormous hoop earrings, was snapped out and about in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
After the publicity that surrounded Katie's whirlwind romance with fiancé Tom Cruise, some regard the couple's decision to shield their daughter from the media spotlight as surprisingly secretive. But friends say the pair are simply being protective of their child.
Suri's mother seems ready to resume public life, though. Last weekend Katie attended a girls-only magazine bash, and her "people" have reportedly been asked to start putting out feelers for movie parts.
And as the actress draws up plans to re-ignite her career, she will, like any proud parent, be thrilled that her other "project" - her new baby - has been so well received. Compliments have been coming in thick and fast from those in the couple's close circle who have set eyes on the little one. Penelope Cruz, Tom's ex, declared Suri "one of the most beautiful babies I've ever seen". Meanwhile a guest at a party in the home of Will Smith, to which Katie took the four-month-old girl, was also effusive, saying: "She has gorgeous dark, curly hair and looks just like Tom."
