He's a Hollywood player now with an Oscar on his mantelpiece, but Philip Seymour Hoffman doesn't forget his most important role - being a dad. At three years old, the Mission: Impossible III star's son Cooper is a chip off the block with a bright thatch of auburn hair.
He's also the apple of his daddy's eye and Philip was all tenderness on a recent outing with the boy and his mother, the actor's partner of seven years, costume designer Mimi O'Donnell. The family stopped off for lunch with friends at a Big Apple cafe, where Cooper had a big kiss for his mum.
Aside from his parental tasks, Philip has a slew of movies in the pipeline. He's currently shooting Before The Devil Knows You Are Dead, a heist flick about two brothers who try to rob their parents' jewellery store. Then he joins a top-notch cast including Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks for political thriller Charlie Wilson's War.
And, despite his high profile, 39-year-old Philip still remembers his roots. On a visit to his old school, the talented thesp thrilled a student by taking a cameo part in his film. Aspiring moviemaker Tim Farmer recalls boldly asking the star to play the lead in his amateur flick, never dreaming he would sign up on the spot. "He said: 'Well, run through it with me, what do I have to do, tell me what to do; you're my director now'."
