In a city the size of New York it's not often that you run into an old friend purely by accident, so it was easy to understand the delight of movie veterans Spike Lee and Whoopi Goldberg when they found themselves face-to-face in the heart of the Big Apple.
The Inside Man director was in Soho filming an advertisement for the 2007 Academy Awards when Whoopi happened upon the scene. The 50-year-old actress, who was born and bred in Manhattan, lives in a luxurious loft near the spot he had chosen to film the clip.
After embracing the Color Purple star warmly, Spike took some time to chat with her before returning to work. And it seems likely his Oscar-winning friend had plenty to be getting on with, too, as she is known as one of the entertainment industry's hardest working stars.
This year alone she has made four different movies while also appearing in the TV cop show Law And Order and producing the children's series Just For Kicks. The dreadlocked star also finds time to front an early morning radio show, entitled Wake Up With Whoopi, and take part in a variety of charity activities.
