New York's red carpets were rolled out last week for the cream of British acting talent as Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren celebrated the stateside premieres of their latest movies. And the acclaimed actresses not only added star style to the proceedings but a dash of romance, too, as they brought along their other halves.
Kate, who turns 31 this week, and her director husband Sam Mendes, sported matching megawatt smiles as they arrived for the screening of her flick Little Children at the New York Film Festival. The couple, who have been married three years, were clearly delighted to attend the glitzy event together after Kate had to fly solo to the Toronto film festival last month while Sam looked after the kids.
The four-times Oscar nominee looked every inch the Hollywood leading lady in a figure-hugging black number, but the down-to-earth mum is modest about her famously good looks. "The notion that women in films are perfect and beautiful and have some kind of secret beauty that nobody else has is just so ridiculous to me, because we're all normal," she said recently.
She might be 30 years Kate's senior, but Helen Mirren was equally glamorous at the screening of her acclaimed movie The Queen. The LA-based actress had obviously done some wardrobe coordination with husband American director Taylor Hackford beforehand, as the pair stepped out hand-in-hand in monochrome outfits – his stripy tie matching the sleeves of her show-stopping dress.
It hasn't been just the Big Apple attracting Hollywood's biggest names in the last few days. Kevin Costner and his stunning wife Christine flew into Germany where they attended the premiere of The Guardian, along with Kevin's co-star Ashton Kutcher.
