As glamorous stars they are used to working the red carpet in myriad colourful creations, but Julie Andrews and Geena Davies also know how to deliver a more sombre, but equally chic, look when the occasion calls for it.
The LA-based Sound Of Music star was the height of elegance on Thursday in top-to-toe black for a fundraiser at the Ronald Reagan medical center in southern California. Julie opted for tailored trousers and a black satin jacket with just a hint of Tinseltown glitz in the diamante detail of her belt buckle.
The Surrey-born singer is likely to choose an altogether more flamboyant outfit early next year when she receives a lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild.
Julie wasn't the only woman taking a monochrome approach at the charity bash. Six-foot Stuart Little actress Geena also plumped for black, accessorising her elegant ruffle shirt and trouser ensemble with a simple strand of pearls.
Ellen Pompeo, 36, whose sultry performance as Grey's Anatomy medic Meredith has set UK screens alight, took the same route. The Massachusetts-born beauty opted for a black wrap dress with matching shoes and clutch. Desperate Housewives' Nicolette Sheridan and James Denton's wife Ellen were also converts to the dark side for the day.
