Kazakhstan's sixth most famous man Borat, aka Sacha Baron Cohen, has arrived in Sydney and has quickly taken to the Aussie way of life. Greeting fans at the premiere of his movie he sported cricket batting pads and a corked hat while holding a boomerang and later cradling a wallaby.
The British comedian's altar ego, fake Kazakh journalist Borat Sagdiyev, has taken the American box office by storm in the spoof documentary Cultural Learnings For Make Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan. The flick has remained on the top spot in the US for a second consecutive week.
Aside from his red carpet outing Sacha also took time to see one of the city's most famous landmarks, Sydney Opera House - in character of course. The British comedian has no doubt been given some tourist tips from his Australian fiancée, former Home And Away actress Isla Fisher.
While many of the less than 500 Kazaks living in Australia don't see the joke, guitarist Slava Grigoryan has no problems with the funnyman's politically incorrect brand of humour. "I love Borat," he says. "For us it's funny seeing someone supposed to be from Kazakhstan because there are so few people in Australia that you hear of that are from there."
The Ali G star's feature film has attracted controversy in the vast oil-rich nation, where it has outraged officials and prompted the Foreign Ministry to run ads citing figures on the country's economic growth, its civil liberties and cultural achievements.
