Sharon Stone and Emilio Estévez were both beaming from ear to ear after a special screening of their latest flick Bobby in New York. And it was easy to understand why the two performers were feeling so happy, as the political drama, which follows the final hours of Robert Kennedy's life, has been a labour of love for both of them.
Along with the rest of the cast, which includes Demi Moore, Lindsay Lohan, Anthony Hopkins and Christian Slater, the pair worked for a fraction of their regular fees in order to get the film made. "Emilio and I joke that we always cry when we talk about this movie," revealed the Basic Instinct actress. "And today we brought just one Kleenex." Her collaborator Emilio, who also wrote and directed the flick, is hoping it will inspire younger people to reflect on the senator's commitment to helping poor and disadvantaged communities. "I believe the death of Bobby Kennedy was in many ways the death of decency in America, the death of poetry, the death of a dream," said the 44-year-old. "I hope when people come out of this movie, they remember when this country was thought of in a much different way."
The much talked-about production, which was made on a shoestring budget of just under £3 million, has also received the backing of the Kennedy family. "They're endorsing the movie because they believe this is a new generation that's going to hear Bobby's words all over again, at a time when perhaps we need him more than ever," said Emilio.
