It seemed to be a case of great minds thinking alike when Aussie actress Cate Blanchett and her British namesake Kate Winslet met up at the Palm Springs Film Festival. The two women were looking radiant in blue gowns as they took to the red carpet.

Both performers were being honoured for their work on the big screen. Cate received a career achievement award in recognition of her many accomplishments, while the English siren was also presented with an award for her role in Little Children.

Afterwards the Antipodean actress revealed she was once mistaken for the Titanic by movie veteran Faye Dunaway. "It was very funny - Faye came up to me at a screening and wanted me to do this project," she explained. "So she turned to her friend and said, 'Debbie, this is Kate Winslet.' I had to ask - 'So, do you want me to do it, or do you want Kate to do it?'."

There were no such mix-ups when the blonde bombshells picked up their gongs on Saturday night, though.

Brad Pitt, who stars alongside Cate in the drama Babel, was also in attendance for the event, along with Jude Law's pretty ex Sienna Miller.

On the other side of the country in the New York, meanwhile, Forest Whitaker and Leonardo DiCaprio were taking centre stage at another movie prize giving. At the New York Film Critics Awards it was Forest enjoying the bulk of the glory, however, as he was named best actor for his portrayal of Idi Amin in The Last King Of Scotland.
