In her latest film Freedom Fighters, Hilary Swank plays an inspirational English teacher, but rather than being the one handing out the gold stars she was on the receiving end this week as she was honoured on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
The two-time Oscar-winner, who received the 2,325th star on the legendary boulevard, wiped away tears as she looked back on her rags-to-riches rise to fame. "I remember my mom using a roll of quarters to call agents from a pay phone and telling agents they should sign me," she recalled at the dedication ceremony.
The Million Dollar Baby actress was just a teenager when she moved to Hollywood with mum Judy 16 years ago. And with just $75 dollars in their pockets, they lived out of a car when they first arrived.
Thirty-two-year-old Hilary, who wore an elegant black shift dress for Monday's ceremony, was an unknown when she won her first best actress Oscar for Boys Don't Cry. Just five years later she was back on the Academy podium to pick up a statuette for Million Dollar Baby.
